Moses was surely perplexed as to why God would be telling him this news, not to mention "burning but not being consumed bush" sound system God was using. Moses knew about the plight of the Israelites. He had made a feeble attempt to save them forty years earlier. He knew the people had been praying. While tending the sheep in the fields, he likely often wondered if God really cared or if He was really aware of the people's suffering. He must have questioned in his heart if God would every come to their aide. How his heart must have leaped with joy when God told him news - "I see. I care. I have come down to rescue them!" What glorious news!
This hasn't changed! God sees the suffering, driven slaves who labor every day in a useless attempt to satisfy the their slave lord. Their master uses their own desires against them. He offers them what he cannot give. He deceives them into believing that by feverishly filling their lives with things and using every available means to satisfy their desires, they can find peace for their troubled minds, relief from the ache in their heart, and fulfillment for the void in their soul. Painfully, in the lonely silent darkness, the slaves cry out for someone to help.
In our sin we are these slaves. This is our plight. But, God sees. He hears. And He has come down to rescue us. Christ came and died to liberate us and lead us to the promised land. When we were helpless, He came. When we were hopeless, He came. Jesus is still in the liberating business. Anyone who calls to Him in faith will be set free. Charles Wesley put it beautifully: "Long my imprisoned spirit lay, fast bound in sin and nature's night. My eyes defused a quick'ning ray, I woke, the dungeon flamed with light. My chains fell off, my heart was freed. I rose went forth and followed Thee."
Beloved, let us all, to be, new, young, or longtime Christian, remember, rejoice in, revel in, and receive this wonderful reality --- God sees; He hears; He has come down to rescue us!
Keep Close To Jesus
